2027 Nuc Bees for Sale in North Texas

Quick answer: Ten Box Bees offers 2027 five-frame honey bee nucs for $275 each, with local pickup at our honey farm in Burleson, Texas. Pickup is expected in early May 2027, subject to spring weather and colony development. Nucs are pickup only; we do not ship them.

What is a five-frame nuc?

A nucleus colony, or nuc, is a small established honey bee colony on drawn comb. It already has a laying queen, adult workers, developing brood and food stores. That makes it very different from buying a package of loose bees that must establish on new equipment after installation.

What comes in a Ten Box Bees nuc?

  • Five deep frames
  • A laying queen
  • Adult worker bees
  • Brood in multiple stages
  • Honey and pollen stores
  • Drawn comb already being used by the colony

Nuc bees vs. package bees

A nuc starts with brood and an established colony structure. A package generally starts with loose bees and a queen that must be accepted after installation. For a new North Texas beekeeper who wants the simplest route to an established spring colony, a nuc is often the more straightforward starting point.

Feature 5-frame nuc Package bees
Laying queen Yes Queen supplied separately within package
Brood Yes No
Drawn comb Yes No
Food stores Yes No established stores
Colony already functioning Yes Must establish after installation

How much are 2027 nucs?

2027 five-frame nucs are $275 each. Spring production is limited, so pre-ordering reserves your place for the season.

When is pickup?

Pickup is expected in early May 2027. Honey bee development follows weather and forage, so the exact date and pickup window are finalized closer to spring. Pre-order customers receive instructions by email.

How should I transport a nuc?

  • Make enough room for the nuc to remain flat and secure.
  • Keep it shaded and ventilated.
  • Avoid leaving bees in a hot parked vehicle.
  • Drive smoothly and go directly to the apiary when practical.

What should be ready before pickup day?

  • Permanent hive location selected
  • Stable hive stand
  • Deep hive body and frames ready
  • Bottom board and lid ready
  • Bee suit or veil and gloves
  • Smoker and hive tool
  • A plan for moving the five nuc frames into the permanent hive

Are these Texas bees?

Our nucs are produced from established Texas honey bee colonies and receive a new queen before pickup. Colonies are given time to establish before customers take them home.

Should I buy a nuc or just a queen?

Buy a nuc when you need a complete small colony. Buy a queen when you already have bees and colony resources but need a replacement queen or a queen for a prepared split. See our 2027 queen bees.

What happens after I bring the nuc home?

Transfer the nuc frames into your prepared hive while keeping brood frames together and maintaining their original order as much as practical. Give the colony room to expand and monitor food, brood pattern and queen activity as the colony grows.

Can purchased nucs be used for a Texas ag exemption?

Landowners may choose to own and manage their own bees, but county appraisal requirements and hive-count standards vary. Purchased nucs mean you are responsible for keeping colonies alive, replacing losses and maintaining documentation. If you want a fully managed program instead, see our honey bee leasing service.
